Pineapple Cake w/ Pineapple Frosting

I hate pineapple.

I'm sure that's not how you imagined the beginning of this post but I really do, I hate pineapple. So what would prompt me to make a pineapple cake (with PINEAPPLE frosting?!)

My boyfriend loves pineapple.
Essentially, he is the sole taste tester of everything I make so I felt that I should make a treat catering to his love of pineapple. My hatred of pineapple did not make this quest any easier. No inspiration was popping into my head on what to make incorporating as much pineapple (or pineapple flavor) as I could. Of course, I could have went with the standard pineapple upside-down cake but I wasn't feeling it.

Eventually, I settled on pineapple cake with pineapple frosting:

that I so lovingly prepared for him.

This recipe wasn't really hard, especially since I used a shortcut (aka boxed cake mix.) The worst part of the entire recipe was gagging on the smell of pineapple (yes, I hate it that much.)

Anyway, I used a boxed pineapple cake mix. I'm unsure of what brand specifically but I'm sure any boxed mix will work. I followed the directions as stated on the back of the box EXCEPT for the water ingredient. I substituted part water and part pineapple juice (for a little more pineapple flavor.) I can't give you the specifics because I eyeballed it but you can choose to do strictly water or mix it up with some pineapple juice as well.

Once the cake was cooled, I smothered it in pineapple frosting. The pineapple frosting was just a basic frosting recipe with 1/2 cup of pineapple juice.

See? I told you this cake was simple.
